Reading with Journalist Yasmine M’Barek at Klax School

Reading and Discussion about Empathy on Reading Aloud Day

In her latest book "I Feel You", journalist, author and podcaster Yasmine M'Barek explores the importance of empathy in our society. She examines phenomena such as social media interaction, the connection between empathy and capitalism, and the importance of criticism in today's world. Her central aim is to re-establish empathy as a valuable social value.

As part of the nationwide Reading Aloud Day on 21 November 2025, Yasmine M'Barek provided an engaging insight into her book at Klax School. Two sixth form students acted as moderators, leading a question-and-answer session with their classmates after the reading. An engaging discussion ensued, with many personal contributions from the school community. Ms M'Barek made it clear that empathy involves not only compassion, but also understanding other people's motivations – a principle that also plays a central role in journalism.

We are delighted that Yasmine M'Barek was able to participate in this inspiring event, and we would like to thank the school administration for organising it, as well as all the staff members and students who contributed to the discussion.
