Digital media have become an indispensable part of our everyday lives. The lives of children and young people are shaped by the Internet. Fun, boredom, or loneliness - there are many reasons why young people often engage with computer games or social media. In families, the use of digital media can be a controversial topic. But at what point should parents restrict use? And when do we talk about online addiction?
As part of the regular parent info series, the Klax School invited the Addiction Prevention Center (Fachstelle für Suchtprävention Berlin) to a digital information event on February 24th. The discussion focused on why social networks are fascinating for young people, why computer games have such a great effect, and when limits should be set. The specialist center also discussed gaming worlds with interested parents, gave tips on rules for dealing with digital media or suggestions for homeschooling. The important thing is that online experiences should be discussed together. Children and young people also need clear and comprehensible rules or set times. Parents should also find alternative activities with their children - preferably offline. However, it also became clear that there are many good digital activities where children and young people can educate themselves, communicate or play games.
We would like to thank "Unabhängig bleiben! Fachstelle für Suchtprävention" (Addiction Prevention Center) for the offer!
