We are following the current developments in Ukraine with concern and dismay. As a school, we stand for peace, democracy and the freedom of all people. We condemn the terrible attack on the Ukrainian people and hope for a quick end to the violence and suffering. Our thoughts are with the people in need and the friends and relatives of our students and colleagues.
The news of war and destruction is not only weighing on teachers, staff and parents. Our students are also uncertain and worried. For the first time, they are consciously confronted with a war in Europe. Therefore, we talk about fears, loss and helplessness in the classes. When talking about the conflict, we distinguish between the Russian government and the Russian population, because many Russian voices are also taking a stand and positioning themselves against this attack. When students have questions about news and reports from the media and social networks, we use this as an opportunity to talk about freedom of the press, trustworthy reporting and reputable sources.
As a school community, we support all those who demonstrate for peace, raise funds and assist incoming refugees. Our solidarity and compassion is with the Ukrainian people. We hope and wish very much that peace will soon reign again.
