Hot wire, American football, toad lamp – on 21 January the whole school could marvel at many self-made products in the Makerspace. For the first time, we organised a Maker Fair at our school. And there was a lot to see: Over the course of the day, all students could admire numerous works that were created in the Maker & Design courses, workshops, computer science or in the Maker Clubs. In addition, a selection of products was presented, which were made daily by the school community in the freely accessible OpenLab times with all machines. Self-programmed games and maker videos were exhibited by the team on the iMacs. With the recycling machine, the students were able to make their own spinning tops out of bottle caps. The highlight of the day: the robot competition, in which self-made mBots, Lego EV3s or LegoWedos competed against each other. The fastest robot was Lisbeth and Oskar's from 3b - congratulations! The winners can look forward to an Arduino Starter Kit sponsored by Conrad.
The theme of sustainability runs through all projects in the Makerspace. Our Maker Fair also marks the start of the new climate project in the workshop, with a climate wall. Here, all students were able to pin their creative ideas on how we can live even more sustainably in our school.
"The first Maker Fair was a complete success. We were able to activate the entire school community and hope for many new Makerspace members next month," says André Timm, head of the Makerspace.
In July, we will continue with the second edition of the fair – and we are excited to see what our students have built, programmed or produced by then.
