Working together for a clean city
On September 18, Klax International School once again took part in World Cleanup Day and, together with students and teachers, sent a strong message in support of environmental and climate protection. With great dedication, they set out and collected a total of 275.5 kilograms of trash.
A special highlight of the day was a visit from politican Julia Schneider (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen). She addressed the students and met the school club “Our Happy Future” (OHF), which is active year-round on environmental and sustainability issues. The club’s commitment extends far beyond the school itself. The students also exchange ideas with partner schools throughout Europe and work together to develop ideas for a sustainable future. Afterwards Julia Schneider visited the children’s art gallery and the “Eco Explorer” exhibition, which was presented by members of the OHF club. Then everyone headed out on their cleanup routes. Equipped with gloves and trash bags, the participants set out to clear the neighborhood of litter.
The day’s grand finale took place at the Kiezfest which was opened by District Mayor Cordelia Koch, who also hosted the awards ceremony for the trash cleanup campaign. In recognition of their active participation, the entire school received gift certificates for the Schönhauser Allee Arcaden. In addition, students ran their own booth at the Kiezfest and engaged in conversations with visitors there.
World Cleanup Day has once again shown what is possible when many people work together. Commitment begins on one’s own doorstep and can have an impact far beyond it. Klax International School would like to thank everyone involved who made this special day possible through their dedication.
