Environmental awareness in action

On Saturday 29 March, the Klax school club "Our Happy Future" and their parents, took part in the spring clean-up organised by the organisation 'Alles im Fluss' in Berlin-Treptow. The aim of the campaign was not only to teach the students theoretical knowledge about environmental protection and water conservation, but also to motivate them to act in a sustainable way.

The spring clean-up on land and water marked the start of the clean-up season - a project organised for the fifth time in Treptower Park by the non-profit initiative 'wirBERLIN gGmbH'. Using nets and magnets, the participants fished rubbish out of the river Spree on a raft - including keys and even two construction fences. More rubbish was collected on land. Thanks to the help of many volunteers, the impressive amount of 7,200 cigarette butts, 2,000 bottle caps and 721 kg of rubbish were collected. These figures illustrate not only the scale of the problem, but also the positive impact of community involvement.

As much of the world's plastic waste ends up in the oceans via rivers, every piece of litter collected helps to protect the environment. The campaign showed students how they can take active responsibility. Such practical experiences make environmental education tangible and promote a sustainable awareness of nature and society.

The newspaper Berliner Morgenpost also reported on the campaign and highlighted the commitment of the participants, including the Klax School.

We are proud of the commitment of our students and that together we have set an example for a clean environment!
