On Friday 17 October, Klax School's schoolyard was transformed into a bustling market. The traditional large autumn market provided a platform for showcasing the creative outcomes of the autumn project week, as well as offering a space for people to meet, exchange ideas, and demonstrate active solidarity.
Our students presented their homemade products at 21 lovingly designed sales stands. All of the proceeds, totalling over €8,000, will be donated to the Afghan Women's Association, which supports our partner school, the Roshani Girls' School in Ghazni.
Our School Principal Nicole Baudisch and Christina Ihle, the managing director of the Afghan Women's Association, opened the autumn market. Ms Baudisch welcomed the guests in three languages: German, English and Dari, one of the two official languages of Afghanistan. We were particularly touched by Ms Ihle's kind words for Klax: “No other school is as creative or as special as this one.”
Our school band provided the musical accompaniment and delighted the audience with 14 new members, including 11 new singers. They created a festive atmosphere with their cover of the ABBA classic 'Thank You for the Music', among other things.
In her presentation, Ms Ihle provided information on the complex socio-political situation in Afghanistan, our partner school, Roschani, and the urgent need for digital educational opportunities. The donations will be used to purchase computers for Roschani School. 'This is the only way girls can open up the world to themselves,' explained Ms Ihle.
Alongside the lovingly designed sales stands, the autumn market featured two exhibitions: one offering vivid insights into the history and culture of Afghanistan and the other showcasing traditional crafts. The latter exhibition built a bridge to the practical and creative work of the pupils during the project week. These two exhibitions were also the result of the autumn project week.
This year also saw the return of the cake competition, which attracted many imaginative and delicious entries. A big thanks to all the parents for their generous cake donations, which made the extensive buffet possible and helped create a cosy market atmosphere.
Finally, we would like to thank all the students, teachers, parents and guests for helping to make the autumn project week such a success!
